Q
. Why should I use the Total Logic Security plates on my equipment?
A.The first step in protecting equipment is to make quick positive identification possible.
This security marking system provides an effective low-tech solution to a high-tech problem.
It is very quick to install (less than 20 seconds) and although the ID system protection allows recovery of missing equipment, the security plate's hidden "anti-theft" message is a strong deterrent that reduces theft and loss dramatically.

Q. I am always on the move, which security system protects my equipment wherever I go?
A. On portable equipment, the Total Logic security marking with the universal freephone international recovery service is the easiest and fastest solution for you.
This means that if your equipment is lost or stolen it can be returned to you from anywhere in the world. It requires no special scanning or forensic equipment.
It can be read by anyone finding your equipment and we can trace the owner quickly via our internal database.

Q.Our computers are already protected by controlled access and password. Why should I mark them with the TLS security plate?
A. A combination of security measures is always a good idea.
For example with controlled access security the thief will not be able to use the computers but that does not ensure that they will not be stolen anyway. The thief does not know in advance the level of protection that the equipment has.
This results in the loss of the equipment and even more importantly, the loss of valuable information.
With the Total Logic Security plate, because the owner is readily identifiable theft is reduced and there is still a very good chance of having the equipment found and returned.

Q.What happens when lost or stolen equipment is found and Total Logic Security are contacted.
A. For Total Logic Security this is the most rewarding part of our service, and we have had some very notable success at locating and identifying lost or stolen equipment.
The recovery process:
The finder contacts Total Logic Security head office via the many avenues available which includes the Universal Freephone telephone number (008 008 00000 11 ), the UK freephone number (0800 893693) or our direct number (00 44 (0)1279 439900).
or the finder can contact us via the web CLOAKING .
The finder leaves us their contact details, the number of the Total Logic Security plate and the make and model of the equipment found.
We then match the plate identification number with the registered owner. We contact the owner and provide the details of where the item is located and the finder. Normally the item is located quite close to the owner and the owner can collect the item personally.
In the circumstances where the found equipment is overseas or difficult to retrieve – Total Logic Security will make arrangements with a courier to collect the item and arrange its safe return at no charge to the owner. Finally Total Logic Security send a 'Security Thank You' pack to the finder as a token of appreciation of their honesty.

Q.What notable successes have Total Logic Security had in returning lost or stolen equipment?
A.1. Recently the police raided some premises in Brighton and recovered a number of PC's and Laptops. They had no idea who they belonged to – the police contacted us and we were able to provide the owners identity. They belonged the constituency party HQ of a popular political party.
Not only were we able to repatriate the equipment to its rightful owners but the thieves were prosecuted and sentenced.
2. A very large insurance company recently lost one of its laptops. The owner had left it on a train -(It happens all the time!) and ended up at Cambridge lost property office who contacted us and we arranged its return to its forgetful owner. (If lost property arrives at a police station or railway station lost property office without readily identifiable marking and a contact telephone number it is very unlikely to be returned and is normally ends up sold at auction.)

Q.
Why is your security marking system so efficient?
A. It works at three distinct levels:

1. There is usually an immediate decrease in material theft. By informing your staff and visitors alike that the company's equipment has a permanent security marking linked to our database and that police can quickly identify stolen items when recovering material, the internal and casual theft rates will fall.

2. In case of theft, when the police find equipment in warehouses of stolen material, it is very difficult to establish the link between the equipment and its owner without a positive identification marking. With the Total Logic Security protection, recovery is guaranteed.
Also at border controls, customs can verify the origins of suspect equipment
Your own internal security staff can readily identify who the equipment belongs to.

3. In case of loss or forgetting equipment (in a train, taxi, restaurant etc.), particularly for mobile equipment, with a simple call we can ensure the fast recovery and return of the equipment. (The equipment information is held on our registration database and because no special forensic science is involved anyone can contact us and we can immediately identify the owner. )

Q.Do I need to register my equipment details with you?
A. No, this is a distinct advantage of the Total Logic Security sysem.
The unique identification numbers are registered as belonging to you.
If the equipment is found or recovered, without knowing what it is protecting, we know that it belongs to you because the number is yours.

Q.We already have inventory numbers. Can we use these numbers for the ID security plate?
A. Yes, as long as the required sequence is not already used by another client (every plate has a unique alphanumeric coding - we recommend that you use a distinct three or four letter alpha reference at the beginning IE TLS 0000001 to aid ownership identification).

Q.I would like to use the ID security plate with a non standard format. Is this possible?
A.Yes. We have total control of the production cycle, from graphical design to the finished product, so variations in size, colour and format are possible. Also bar coding can be included at no extra cost.

Q.What is an Universal International freephone number?
A. This number, printed on all the Total Logic security plates, is free for the caller.
It allows, when a piece of equipment is found, the caller to be connected to our head office whereever he calls from. For example, a marked laptop belonging to an English businessman is found at Frankfurt airport. Anyone calling this number is automatically directed to our head office. We will, where appropriate, recover the equipment and arrange its safe return to the owner.

Q.Our company re-sells its computer equipment every three years. Will using a permanent security plate on our equipment affect the re-sale value?
A. No. If you know that you will be re-selling your equipment, we recommend using standard ID security plates without a specific logotype. When re-selling the equipment, our plates can be a good sales point. The new owner can register the machine under his own name and benefit from the protection the plates offer.
